What is the BYIC?
BYIC stands for Brethren Youth in Christ. BYIC is the National Organization of youth groups throughout our denomination. Though many youth groups do not call themselves BYIC, it is the name in which we come under in recognizing that all of our youth groups and organizations support the same denomination.

How can I keep updated about the BYIC?
If you would like to keep updated about the BYIC, please contact the National Office at (877) 289-1708 or brethren@brethrenchurch.org. We would be more than happy to add you to our mailing list or add you to our youth advisor’s contact list. These lists are used to update youth advisors on what is happening in the BYIC as well as to promote various events that happen throughout the year.

What is BYIC Convention?
The BYIC Convention is an annual Youth Convention that is ran by the leaders of the BYIC. It is a 5-day event that brings youth groups from across the nation together for a time of teaching, worship and fellowship. The BYIC Convention is often held in Ashland, OH.

What is the SALT program?
SALT is a program that is to help encourage Students Advancing in Leadership Training. The SALT program is a 5 year program that students can enter as early as 7th grade, or whenever they are interested in growing in Spiritual Leadership. The SALT program matches up youth with adults in your local church and provides all the resources that are needed to help the youth develop into tomorrows leaders.

Who is in charge of the BYIC?
The National BYIC is run by a volunteer committee of four individuals on the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). These individuals are elected to a two year term, with a third year serving as an advisory role. The Youth Advisory Committee gets together at least two times per year to revisit the vision and goals of the BYIC and make plans to continue to guide the BYIC into further kingdom work. If you are interested in joining this committee, please fill out the application for on the website as we are always looking for new candidates for these positions.

Do you offer internships through the BYIC?
Yes, the BYIC offers internships year around. Be sure to checkout the job bank on this website to see what churches are looking for. This job bank gets updated year around so be sure to check back if you can’t find anything that interest you right now.

What is the BYIC National Project?
The BYIC National Project is chosen annually to help support a Brethren ministry as they reach the youth in their area. The National Project exists so the BYIC can help support ministries around the world through ours prayers, finances and time. BYIC groups are encouraged to raise money to help support the ministry. At the same time, youth become more aware of the work that the National Brethren Church is involved in both in the United States and around the world.

I/my youth used to get information about BYIC and I/we no longer do: what happened?
Every year the National BYIC sends outs registration forms for BYIC groups to register their kids. This list is used throughout the year to keep them updated on different events and opportunities that they have to get involved in the BYIC. If you or your youth leader has not turned in this form, you will not receive information about BYIC events for the next year. This list is only used to keep youth updated on what is happening in the Brethren Church and ways that they can get involved.
