Canvas Community Church in Winchester, Virginia, is a new Brethren church that was born from the merger of Canvas Church, a non-denominational church, and a Brethren Church – our own Grace Community Church. The merger was completed less than two years ago.

On June 23rd, Canvas Community Church had the privilege of ordaining their first Elder in the Brethren Church, Kent McKay. Kent was a lay leader in the congregation. He oversees Canvas Community Church’s governance board and is an active member of the teaching team. The ordination service was an excellent opportunity to honor Kent for all his hard work and dedication to the ordination process and for the congregation to learn more about the Brethren’s approach to leadership. Miles Larson, Brethren Church Elder and Director of Pastoral and Congregational Vitality, delivered the message, and Lee Reams, Brethren Church Elder and pastor of Compass Community Church (Cross Junction, VA), officiated the ordination service.
