Scripture Reading: Romans 8:28 1 Corinthians 2:9
Thirty-five years ago today, my Dad passed away suddenly. We had his funeral on his 42nd birthday. Sometimes I forget what I had for lunch yesterday, but I can remember that day with vivid detail even still.
That's the way it is with the big storms; a fatal diagnosis, loss of a job, divorce, death...the memory lingers. There are good, amazing things that happen in life; the birth of a child, celebrating 50 years with the love of your life, bringing someone to Christ...and those memories carry us too, but we usually don't list them in the storm category.
The thing is, we have amazing opportunities to grow during storms and amazing opportunities to show the difference Jesus Christ makes in our lives. Just like the teacup in yesterday's devotional story, God uses the pounding, spinning, stinky fumes and intense heat, to create a beautiful vessel to be used by Him. The choice is ours, however.
Will we seek to learn from the storm, patiently looking for the good God can bring out of this mess? Will we remember with clarity what He did for us in that storm and where He brought us? It all starts with the calling out to Jesus, "Save me!"
The most precious memory of the day my Dad died is the strong arms of the Heavenly Father wrapped around my family through the arms of other believers. We cried out to be saved from such intense sorrow and Jesus brought His peace that surpasses all understanding.
Are you in a storm? Say the words: "Save me, Jesus!"

Do you know someone in the surging waves of shock, decision, bitterness, depression or loss? Quietly wrap your arms around them to whisper the love of Jesus.
Father we long to join You in healing brokenness to those around us.
Save us in our own storm that we may also throw your life-saving name to others...Jesus!
