On Sunday, August 7th, members and friends gathered in the sanctuary at Lanark, First Brethren Church, to celebrate the ordination of Pastor Timothy Swigart. The ceremony began at 5 PM with a time of welcoming to all for the auspicious occasion and a time of hymn singing and prayer. Pastor Russ Paul, of the Shullsburg, WI Community Evangelical Free church and long-time friend and mentor of Tim’s gave an inspirational message about the seriousness of the role of Elder. Pastor Russ reminded Tim and the congregation that great times and hard times were still to come. Never give up hope, never stop praying, and be filled with patience and grace for one another.
Brethren Church Elder Rev. Cole Westwood (Corinth, First Brethren Church) led the ceremony, charging Elder Tim and the congregation to lift one another in prayer and grace in the coming days. Tim’s wife Kathy Joined him on stage, where they were prayed over with the laying on of hands by Rev. Scott Soden, Rev. Larry Baker, Rev. Jim Black, and Midwest Regional Representative Linda Immel.
After the completion of the ordination service, attendees applauded with joy and delight and then enjoyed a time of food and fellowship in celebration.
We hope you will join us as we welcome Tim, Kathy, and their family into the Brethren fold and the office of the Ordained Elder of the Brethren Church.
