Brethren Global Partners is proud to announce the launch of a new pilot program for young leaders looking for experience in cross-cultural and international ministry. We humbly ask you to be in prayer as Hanna Strickland and Katryna Soden head to the beautiful continent of Africa. They will be working with our excellent partners in Durban, developing a pathway for International Internships. These amazing women will help us develop this joint venture between the Brethren Church National Office (Global Partners), Five Stones Brethren Church, and the Brethren Church of South Africa. Our teams will work on creating outcomes and expectations along with immersive spiritual and cultural experiences. We hope these experiences will help those engaged in the internship program develop new insights, spiritual disciplines, and discernment. Not just for themselves but for the improvement and growth of the church in both the U.S. and South Africa.
Hanna will be in South Africa for over a month, and Katryna will be there for almost four months. We hope that by staggering the time frame, we can determine a best practice for the length of stay that will be the most beneficial to the intern and their hosts. It also goes that while these interns are in the country, they will minister and work under the auspice, authority, and supervision of the host church and nation.
Upon returning, participants, in this case, Hanna and Katryna, will spend time debriefing with the South Africa team led by Mallorie and Nkosinathi (Nathi) Dladla, Sadie Vanderzyden, and Lydia Heckert. Debriefing after returning home is critical as it will help participants process their personal experiences, areas that they are wrestling with God, and coming to grips with re-entry into the U.S. culture.
Pastor Sandile and his team will engage Hanna and Katryna in various ministries based on their gifts and abilities. Sandile will work to immerse them into cultural and contextual experiences to help strengthen both the church in South Africa and the church here in the U.S.
This is the first of two International internship pilot programs that Global Partners is developing in different areas. The second will hopefully launch at least one intern in Pucusana, Peru, in the next six months. As the Lord leads, we hope to expand into new areas to develop even closer relationships with our partners and offer a few places in the U.S. for our partners to send young leaders.
For now, we ask you to keep the churches, leaders, and teams in prayer through this process. Pray for safe travel and growth for all.
