Your partners in Lima, Peru, continue to make the long journey from isolation following the pandemic into new streams of ministry. The church there continues to reach out, focusing primarily on youth ministry. Pastor Luis hopes that this ministry will bring in young families who will hear the Gospel and be ministered to and then will begin to minister alongside others. The ultimate goal is that this new generation will become leaders in the church as they learn to work with these youth.
While serving their immediate community, they continue to reach out to the local barrio of Ticlio Chico and other impoverished districts about an hour away by train. As in Lima, much of their ministry focuses on kids and families, with special events and lessons occurring on Saturdays. The church has access to two buildings in Ticlio Chico. One is situated at the top of the hill where classes often meet, sheltered from the elements. The other, down the hill, serves as a multi-use venue where kids come for lessons and the community gathers for meals and bible studies.
A couple of weeks ago, I (Chyann Mackey) and seven others from Mt. Olive Brethren Church went down to Lima, Peru for a week and worked alongside Pastor Luis in some of the different ministries he is involved in. We spent a day painting the fence which surrounds the church, hired someone to paint the outside of the entire church, and washed the walls inside the church. We delivered a stove to Ticlio Chico and fixed a leak in the community center roof. I got to celebrate my birthday while in Peru and we had a big get-together with the congregation from the church, the youth group, and the kids club. It was so much fun getting to fellowship with the Brethren church in Lima.
While in Ticlio Chico, we visited a potential new ministry building. While we were there, the woman in charge of all of Ticlio Chico also happened to be there and told us that she had been praying for someone to come fix up and use this building for ten years! We hired a contractor to draw up blueprints and are very excited about the potential of this building to help spread the gospel to a new area.
Please continue to lift your partners in prayer as they reach out as the hands, feet, and voice of Jesus in Lima, Ticlio Chico, and beyond.
