Mt Olive Brethren Church (McGaheysville, VA) recently sent a team of volunteers to assist in the still-ongoing relief and rebuilding efforts in the wake of a tumultuous Hurricane season in late 2017. The team traveled to Houston and did a variety of rebuilding projects, including home demolition, cleaning, working at a food bank, and more.
Below are some photos and thoughts from the team that made the journey.
Angela Wheeler said, "serving others is what makes me feel like I am living my purpose. Being able to go to Texas, my home state, and share Jesus was a true blessing. I enjoyed talking with the people and hearing their stories, as well as being able to provide a little hope in such a terrible situation. Watching my niece and nephew grow in their faith while we were there, and seeing them serve alongside all the adults, was heartwarming."
13-year-old Christopher Wylie said his favorite part was "when the lady hugged each one of us after we prayed for her." It touched his heart to see her so thankful. He "felt God's love all around."
"Looking back on my trip to Houston I went down with 6 people from Mt Olive that I have either never met or only introduced myself to prior to this trip," said team member Lou Zeigler. "From day one everybody treated me like family and it felt as if we were a team learning from each other and serving together. I feel that the week pulled me closer to the church by getting to know them, and I look forward to seeing them."
