The Northeast Region held its Missions and Ministry gathering, hosted by Vinco Brethren Church and led by Vinco pastor Zac Yonko. Along with help from Pastor Todd & Tracy Ruggles and the Pleasant View worship team, the day began with uplifting worship shifting attention from the grey skies outside to the true reason we’d gathered.
The theme of the gathering was Hearing God. In addition to times of worship throughout the day, several Scripture reading and listening exercises were offered. The audience was encouraged to read a selected passage of Scripture and discuss how God was speaking to them through it. These times allowed for enriching community sharing among those gathered.
Jayne Wilcox from Highland Park Brethren Church and Zac Yonko from Vinco shared about the Gatherer, Shephard, Elder (GSE) process of church planting & renewal. They shared stories from around the region of GSE happenings and encouraged everyone to consider if they have gatherers in the churches or communities. A fortunate few received free GSE resource books.
Brethren Church Executive Director Steven Cole offered a greeting and shared a brief word concerning the changing culture, yet the truth of God remains true and essential to be lived out and shared in the world.
Midway through the day, a delicious catered lunch was enjoyed by everyone. Many conversations were happening around the tables, and lots of laughs. It was evident that there was a joyful spirit being shared by everyone there. The homemade apple pie possibly had something to do with that too.
The day concluded around mid-afternoon, with people heading home with full stomachs and hearts and minds. The day's theme became the day's challenge: to listen for God’s voice and respond appropriately. That’s a word not just for the Northeast Region but for all of us who call Christ Lord.
