Ordained for Ministry
Two men have recently been ordained for pastoral ministry in The Brethren Church. David Miller (McGaheysville, VA) and Rudy Bocanegra (Columbus, OH) were both ordained in their local churches. David Miller serves at Mt. Olive Brethren Church and is the son of ordained Brethren elder and Mt. Olive Senior Pastor, Fred Miller. Other Brethren elders present for David's ordination included Rev. David Cooksey, Rev. Fred Miller, Rev. Gail Heston, and Rev. Jason Barnhart.
Rudy is a member of Smoky Row Brethren Church in Columbus, OH. The ordination service was led by Rev. Rich Hagopian. Brethren elder Rev. Dr. Brenda Coljin also assisted with the ordination service.
The Brethren Church walks alongside those called into pastoral ministry, through a licensing and ordination process, overseen by The Brethren Church National Ordination Council. The first step in the process is an examination and subsequent licensing of a local pastor. This examination and recommendation for licensure is done by the local church and then by a district board. After a significant process of examination, discernment, and affirmation by many walking with the leader, NOC may approve and recommend a licensed pastor for ordination in the local church.
