Recently, on a sunny Sunday morning members and regular attenders of Summit Ridge gathered, at the conclusion of the worship service, outside on the patio of the church building to dedicate Covenant Stones in which each person had signed to covenant to do the following:
We, the people of Summit Ridge Community Church, covenant together...
To always be gracious in our words and deeds towards one other, and to gently admonish one another when needed.
(Proverbs 16:24)
To live in mutual accountability and to encourage each other to grow in Christ-likeness and to reflect him in all things, to all people, and at all times. (1 Thessalonians 5:9-11)
To be generous in our love, forgiving in our attitude, gentle in our approach, kind with our words, and self-controlled in our actions.
(Galatians 5:22-23)
To serve one another by following the example of Jesus Christ ensuring others are seen, heard, valued, and cared for as deeply valued members of God’s family and this church.
(1 Peter 4:8-11)
This was a culmination of a journey that began last year in which the Lay Elders and Pastors engaged in a process of hosting listening sessions with people at Summit Ridge and from those sessions leading a Repentance and Restoration Service in which the leadership apologized for seven specific actions both present and past that caused pain and hurt among those at Summit Ridge.
Rather than this being an end of a process, it really is in many ways a start towards the healing of past wounds and the restoration of relationships. It’s a start to behave more Christ-like towards one another. It’s a start to not forget the past nor ignore it, but to embrace it and learn from it. It’s a start to a new work with a new posture among those at Summit Ridge toward each other and toward Jesus Christ. It's the start of something new!
