2020 General Conference, Engage, and Brethren Academy Cancelled
APRIL 28, 2020 1:00 PM EST ---
Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, and related restrictions, The Brethren Church will cancel its in-person gathering for the 2020 General Conference in Ashland, OH.
The conference was initially scheduled for July 20-24, 2020, at Ashland University. Also, the Brethren Youth Conference (Engage Conference) and Brethren Academy 2020 will cancel gatherings set for Ashland.
The Brethren Church has made a plan "B", however. A digital conference will be held on Saturday, July 25. The digital gathering will include business, live speakers, and updates. Further details on that process and a full schedule will be shared shortly.
You likely have many questions. You may also be frustrated, saddened, or disagree with the decision. This decision was not made lightly; please understand that we share in your frustration and sadness. General Conference draws attendees from over 15 states and multiple countries around the globe. There are many local, state, and federal restrictions to consider, as well as increased restrictions with the host venue (Ashland University). The National Executive Board took all these factors into consideration when making this very difficult decision.
Please continue to check your email in the coming days, as critical details will be shared about the online gathering on July 25. In the meantime, a Frequently Asked Questions page is available to you, to help answer some of your questions.
Delegate letters will be mailed to your church in early May. It will be important (because of the modified format this year) that your church chooses delegates that can attend digitally. More details will be included with the delegate letters. In general, each delegate will need a personal email address and a personal, web-connected device to watch the live conference stream and participate in the secure voting process.

Please continue to pray for Brethren churches, leaders, and members in North America, as well as around the globe. While we mourn the loss of seeing each other face to face, we look forward with the hope of gathering once again soon and thank God for the means to gather digitally in the meantime.
